What did you learn this week?

This week, I learned about the different dimensions and framework for the NGSS, along with the disciplinary core ideas. I learned how to read and understand the different tiers for each grade level on the NGSS. I also learned about the eight core characteristics for living things. These are cellular composition, genetics and heredity, maintains homeostasis, growth and change, movement, responds to stimuli, metabolism, and reproduction. The posters that we made has made me better visualize and understand these eight characteristics, as I haven't talked or learned about these in a long time.

Are you able to related what you learned to what you already knew?

Yes, I have learned about these eight characteristics of living things in a previous life science class. I have known about growth and change with plants in middle school. In previous biology classes, I can relate reproduction and cellular composition with what I have already known from this class. I have learned about these two things in a more in depth way. Many of the things we learned this week were a good refresh of my memory with prior science classes, which I enjoyed because I can easily forget about these things.

How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?

I can apply what I have learned this week into my future teaching by implementing these science standards and dimensions into my lessons for my class. Science can be a difficult subject area, and I want my students to all enjoy science, along with gain and retain what they learn. I think if I apply what I have learned to my future teaching, my students, no matter where they are at skill wise in science, can all have a positive learning experience with science.
